Paying for Hospice
For most eligible patients, hospice care is covered with little or no out-of-pocket expense.
Hospice is generally covered by:
- Medicare
- Medicaid
- Many private insurance plans
- Certain veterans’ benefits​
Commonly covered services
- Visits from the hospice care team
- Medications related to the terminal illness
- Medical equipment, such as a hospital bed or oxygen
- Medical supplies
- Short-term inpatient symptom management
- Respite care when eligibility requirements are met
- Grief support for the family
